Child pedestrians are more likely to be killed by cars on Halloween than on any other night. The New York City Department of Transportation’s Trick-or-Streets program creates a safe space for children and families out trick-or-treating in the neighborhood.
Halloween night festivities include safe trick-or-treating and live music, beginning at 5PM and continuing until 8PM.
The following blocks in Prospect Heights will be closed to car traffic during Trick-or-Streets between 4:30-8:30PM:
- Park Place between Vanderbilt Avenue and Underhill Avenue
- Underhill Avenue between Prospect Place and Sterling Place
If you need to utilize your car on Halloween, please do not park on these blocks. (If you’re inclined to move your car from these blocks to make more space for trick-or-treaters, that would be welcome as well!)
Parking will be allowed on Park Place between Underhill Avenue and Washington Avenue. Previously parked cars will be able to leave this block, but cars will not be able to enter this block during the event due to the closures listed above.
Emergency vehicles responding to a call will be able to pass through and a bike lane will be maintained.
There are still openings for volunteers to serve as marshals for the event. Volunteers will be stationed at barriers blocking the intersections. Shifts are one-hour minimum, starting at 4:30 (set-up), 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 (breakdown). Volunteers are welcome to sign up for more than one shift. Costumes are welcome but not required. Marshals will be provided with a high-visibility vest during their shifts. You can register to volunteer here.
